Do you struggle with the winter blues? Yeah, me too. It’s actually very common. So we’re not alone. But knowing others out there are struggling too is not a remedy. Disclaimer if you’re new around here – I’m not a doctor. So, I can’t guarantee a “cure” for the winter blues but I do have some good tips for you. They work wonders for me every year and I’m confident they will help you too.
5 Tips to Beat the Winter Blues
Create an uplifting morning routine.
It’s no secret that how you start your day is pivotal to the tone for the rest of the day. For certain seasons your mornings may be focused on productivity. Getting that workout in or a jump start on emails my be important. During the winter months, set a routine focused to uplift your mood. Maybe it is moving your body for 30 minutes, a quiet cup of coffee, reading something inspirational, listening to music or even a specific breakfast. Rather than focus on delaying your start time to the day or even productivity, give yourself that extra time to boost your mood even before the day begins.
Get outside.
This sounds a little crazy, right? Excuse me Jess, do you know it is 30 degrees out there? Trust me. I get it. I do NOT like cold weather. But studies from people much smarter than me show that getting outside every day is a proven method to boost your mood. You don’t have to spend hours outside – just 10 or 15 minutes to take in the sun and fresh air.
Make a list.
Make a list of 10 things you enjoy to do in winter or that you like about this season. Do 1-2 a week. You’ll reap the benefits of the anticipation and the enjoyment of the activity. I’ll give you some examples from my list to help you get started.
- Sitting by the fire. (I keep a fire going as often as possible.)
- Cozy blankets and fuzzy socks. (Buy something new or curl up with coffee and your favorite blanket for you morning routine.)
- Go Snow Skiing or sledding.
- Soups, Chili and Comfort food.
Think simple with these.
Make CBD a part of your routine.
Sometimes we need a little extra help or boost and CBD is a wonderful and natural option. My husband and I believe in this product so much, we started our own company. Our CBD Gummies are our most popular product and it’s easy to see why. Convenient, tastes great, low dose and helps when the stress or winter blues is just a little too much. You can view all of our products here. Be sure to let us know if you have any questions.
Plan a trip.
A change of scenery is magic. Sometimes 24 hours away is all we need to boost our mood and energy. And don’t think too big here either. Maybe it’s a weekend trip, a day trip an hour way, hanging at a friends house even. Switch up your routine for a day or weekend.
These tips are super simple on purpose. When you’re facing the winter blues, it can feel daunting to add self care or another item on the to do list. These are things that can be managed at home, with little to no cost and usually little energy. If all 5 of these seem overwhelming right now then just take one at a time. Small steps and habits lead to big change.
If you feel your struggle is more serious than the winter blues, please reach out to a friend, family member or doctor for help. Asking for help is brave. Don’t believe the lie that we have to have it all together, all of the time. No one does. And also remember that we never know what the person next to us is feeling, a kind word or smile may just change their day.
Love you guys. Hang in there.
Jess
